Cast Iron Rainwater Goods Identification, Repair & Replacement

A lot of historic properties have cast iron rainwater goods. They are strong and durable and if maintained will endure for many years. The protection coat is critical to this and this should be regularly inspected and renewed when required. Between the joints is a mastic to allow movement whilst maintaining a watertight seal. Always use the best mastic you can get. Not a glue or adhesive based one just simply a high elastic mastic for external use. Linseed oil putty is also used sometimes. The various joints also have a bolt and nut to secure them.
