Doorcase repairs

This doorcase dating from the early 19th century sits within the curtilage of Dublin castle. The works that were required were separated from the aesthetic works and only necessary works were carried out. The main principal was to secure the loose fabric and prevent further deterioration where possible.

True minimal intervention.

On this project stabilisation works are all that were required. The effects of water pooling on the horizontal surfaces were extensive. Many seasons of freeze thaw action had produced cracking and fissuring to the stone. The brickwork in this example requires repointing and repair to stop the water ingress. Consolodation works were the appropriate stop gap measures to protect the remaining original fabric. Helibar stiching, patch pointing, lead weatherproofing and minor repair mortar insertion to prevent pooling.
